Emily and Bailey's friends, Isabella and Lydia, are in Pennsylvania right now visiting their grandmother. Bailey has no concept that they are away, so she keeps asking for them. She actually just walked up to me and said, "Della? Della? Della? Did-uh? Did-uh?" which of course translates to "Bella? Bella? Bella? Lydia? Lydia?"
I thought Emily understood that she wouldn't be seeing her friend for a while, until she asked me if she could see Bella tomorrow. I said no, that Bella was far away and we'd see her when she got back. Emily wanted to know where Bella was, so I decided to give her a little geography lesson. I found a map of the United States online (surrounded by water--why do they DO that?) and I said, "Where do we live?" She pointed to Florida. I said, "That's right. Now Bella is here, in Pennsylvania. See? That's very far away."
"It's not that far, Mommy," Emily replied, spreading her thumb and forefinger to measure the distance between the two states. "See? It's only this far!"
Now I just have to get her to stop thinking the US is an island.
